Tynker Announces iPad® Support for its Gamified Coding Elementary School Curriculum at ISTE 2017
Tynker’s first education curriculum for iPads to launch in classrooms this fall
San Antonio, TX — June 25, 2017 — Tynker, the game-based platform teaching more than 50 million kids how to code, today announced iPad support for its fun coding curriculum, already being used in K-6 classrooms in over 60,000 schools nationwide. Tynker unveiled the iPad-compatible courses this week, including two that were recently created for the Everyone Can Code initiative from Apple®, at the International Society for Technology in Education Expo in San Antonio, Texas. These courses, along with 18 brand new ones, will become widely available to schools across the country in Fall 2017.
Tynker’s elementary school curriculum is used in one in three schools across the country to teach students computer programming through fun, gamified lessons that ensure success at every level. The lesson plans, currently available for use in classrooms via desktop computers, will be introduced to schools everywhere via iPad this August. The expanded accessibility will come at no extra cost to schools and educators with existing Tynker licenses.
“Technology platforms such as laptops or iPads being used to engage kids in the classroom are becoming more relevant and necessary than ever before, given the digital uprising we are in,” said Tynker co-founder and CEO, Krishna Vedati. “Our goal is for our game-based coding curriculums to be available and accessible to as many kids around the world as possible. This latest iPad integration takes us one step closer to helping kids everywhere learn the basics of programming in the classroom, and begin creating their own realities through coding.”
Tynker courses available on the iPad:
- Space Cadet for Grades K-2, Everyone Can Code Program from Apple
- Dragon Spells for Grades 3-5, Everyone Can Code Program from Apple
- Programming 101 and 102, for Grades 3-4
- Programming 201 and 202, for Grades 5-6
- 12 STEM courses for Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8
- Drones 101
- Lego® WeDo Coding 101
"Tynker's magnificent move on expanding its coding curriculum's availability on an effective learning device such as the iPad will definitely benefit lots of teachers and students especially in schools in a 1:1 learning setup,” said Apple Distinguished Educator, Noel Feria. “As more children are getting engaged on the iPad, the future of coding on game-based coding challenges is exciting."
Tynker’s school curriculum aligns with Common Core Mathematics, Common Core English Language Arts, NGSS and CSTA Computer Science standards. The curriculum is organized into grade-specific, self-learning lesson plans that allow students to move at their own pace through game-based coding challenges that tie into the classroom’s studies.
Teachers do not need prior experience with computer programming to use Tynker in their classrooms. Tynker offers a teacher portal with real-time insights into which students are excelling and which are struggling, in addition to answer keys and lesson guides to help teachers provide extra assistance, as needed. Upon mastering Tynker’s visual, block-based coding language, students can transition seamlessly into more advanced coding languages such as JavaScript or Python. Teachers and students can showcase and share the projects they create via Tynker’s platform within the Tynker community, and to their family and friends outside of the classroom.
Tynker will be showcasing its iPad-compatible curriculums at the Education Expo of the International Society for Technology in San Antonio June 25-28, 2017 at booth #758. To learn more about the curriculum or pricing, please visit the booth or www.tynker.com/school/coding-curriculum/.
